Aspida taps Truist and Pacific Life for tech hires

Long-term re/insurer Aspida has made two hires aimed at advancing the company's bid to be a digital leader in a traditionally paper-driven industry.

Aspida, which has a Bermuda-based reinsurer and a US platform focused on leveraging technology and agility to help clients, hired Jason Pedone as chief technology officer and Derek Clinton as director of digital product management.

"These new hires will play a pivotal role in the continued development and advancement of the company's cutting-edge, in-house technology stack and unified data architecture," the company said. "The news follows the appointment of Alex Seidita as chief information officer and demonstrates Aspida’s commitment to assembling a team of technology experts to guide its modern approach to insurance and maintain its position as a digital leader in a traditionally paper-driven industry."

Founded in 2021, Aspida said its "unique technology platform and service model" enables Aspida to operate as a tech-first provider delivering the speed, efficiency, and scalability required for partners and providers to thrive in an evolving market.

"Our unique perspective on technology isn't just about current trends – it's about pioneering the future of annuity services. We see technology as a fundamental pillar to redefine industry standards, create unmatched user experiences, and lead the way in innovation," said Alex Seidita, CIO at Aspida. "These appointments underscore our commitment to putting the right leaders in place to drive our digital transformation efforts and deliver innovative solutions to our clients."

Prior to joining Aspida, Pedone served as the SVP and Head of Digital and Consumer Channels Engineering Division at Truist Financial, where he led 40 agile development teams responsible for the engineering and delivery of digital product portfolios supporting over 10 million customers.

"The technology infrastructure Aspida has built marks a significant leap forward for the insurance industry. Today's partners and clients are more tech savvy than ever before, and they expect the seamless, digital experience we enable," said Pedone. "I'm excited to support Aspida's journey to shape the future of the industry and establish new benchmarks for client-centric solutions in the digital age."

Clinton was head of product and innovation, venture development at Pacific Life, where he spearheaded the development of a customer-centric global product strategy and consistently launched products that drove over $40 million in new revenue or cost savings while managing a $5 million product and innovation team.
