Ascot taps loss control expert to develop 'modern-era' service

Bermuda-based Ascot Group has appointed a loss control and risk management veteran to its US office.

David Larson will be US head of loss control and risk management services and will be based in the company’s Iselin, New Jersey office, reporting to Elizabeth Johnson, chief operating officer, North America.

Larson, who was previously senior vice president, national director, risk services, at McGriff Insurance Services, will be responsible for developing and launching a modern-era loss control and risk management programme at Ascot.

The team will also drive internal enhancements and efficiencies by informing underwriting evaluations and risk selections across Ascot’s various underwriting units through loss trend data and analysis, the company said.

“We understand that providing our insureds with financial protection is just one part of a comprehensive, client-centric insurance programme,” said Johnson. “A proactive and bespoke loss control plan is a highly valued differentiator that we can bring to our clients – particularly those in Ascot’s newly launched Captive Solutions business and our thriving Workers’ Compensation capabilities – to support both their risk management goals, and, critically, their employee safety initiatives.”

Jonathan Zaffino, Group CEO and president added: “As we continue to enhance our abilities to deliver sustained underwriting profitability, we are increasingly focused on risk mitigation strategies to support our clients across multiple industry sectors.

"In today’s complex and volatile risk environment, these solutions are critical to long term success. Investing in talent like David affords us the opportunity to help our clients build robust risk mitigation plans while harnessing loss trend data to better inform risk selection and support portfolio optimization. We believe this is integral to the future of smart underwriting.”

Larson also worked in senior risk services and loss control roles at Lockton Companies and Wells Fargo.
