Dickinson joins board of Hiscox’s Bermuda arm

Former Bermuda finance minister Curtis Dickinson has been appointed as a non-executive director of Hiscox Insurance Company (Bermuda), which oversees Hiscox’s reinsurance and insurance linked securities arm.

Dickinson, a banker who was most recently an executive advisor to Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers, was finance minister from 2018 to 2022.

In his new role he will oversee the strategy and vision of Hiscox Re & ILS.

Paul Cooper, Hiscox Group CFO and HIB Chair, said: “Curtis’ extensive experience and deep ties to the Bermudian community will be invaluable as we continue to grow and execute our strategy. Alongside the rest of the board, I look forward to benefitting from his extensive financial services expertise and significant Bermuda market experience.”

Kathleen Reardon, Hiscox Re & ILS CEO and HIB board member, added: “Curtis’ wealth of expertise in financial services and his unique profile in Bermuda will be a strong asset as Hiscox Re & ILS continues to grow, delivering exceptional value for our customers, partners, investors, and the community.”

Dickinson has more than 25 years of experience in investment and commercial banking across the US, UK and Bermuda. His career includes senior roles at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corporation, Credit Suisse, First Boston Corporation and Wells Fargo Securities, where he was instrumental in raising capital for companies in various industries.

Prior to his ministerial appointment, Curtis was executive vice president and group of head of private banking at the Bank of Butterfield, having previously lead Butterfield’s global treasury and Bermuda-based wealth management businesses.

He has also been chairman of the Board of Education and the Bermuda Hospitals Board, and director of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation. Currently he serves as a director of HOME, a charity combatting homelessness.

Curtis added: “Hiscox is a business and a brand that I have admired for some time, so I am excited to be joining the Hiscox family and looking forward to working with the organisation as they deliver on their ambitious growth plans.”
